Recommendations
Creating a links page and keeping it up to date is a time consuming endeavor. Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, there are more excellent vintage music websites out there than I could possibly keep up with.  Therefore, it is not my objective to make this page comprehensive.  Instead, whenever possible, I will try to direct people to other links pages that do strive to be comprehensive and up to date.

 
 
Tyrone Settlemier's Records & Phonograph Links   This is the most comprehensive listing anywhere of websites  about 78 rpm records and antique phonographs.  Several fan sites of 1920's & 1930's bands and vocalists are also listed.  Mr. Settlemier also does an admirable job of keeping the page updated and removing expired links.  It will probably take you days to fully explore everything he has listed.

 
 
Rich Conaty's

"The Big Broadcast" 

"The Big Broadcast" is a weekly radio show hosted by Rich Conaty.  The program is entirely devoted to vintage jazz, pop and vocal recordings from the 1920s and early 1930s.  If you enjoy my 1920s & 1930s section, you will love this program. 

If you live in New York City, you can hear the program over the air on WFUV-FM (90.7) every Sunday evening from 8:00 PM until midnight Eastern Time.  The rest of us can listen to it live over the Internet at the WFUV website.  An archives of previous broadcasts can also be accessed on the WFUV website.

 I am a big fan of this program and recommend it highly.  Listen once and your Sunday evenings will be forever booked!
 

 
 
 
Contemporary Groups 
Playing 1920's & early 1930s Music

The music doesn't live on just through vintage recordings.  Here are a few groups that I am familiar with who are helping to keep it alive.

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra   An excellent group from Britain that has been around since the early 1970s.  They play everything from 1920s pop to the big band music of the 1940s.  I can't find a website for the band, but here is a page put up by its pianist. 

The San Francisco Starlight Orchestra.  This group plays late 1920s and early 1930s pop and jazz using original orchestrations.  If you live in the San Francisco area, you have the opportunity to hear them perform live each month. 

Das Palast Orchester  This is a group from Germany that plays German and American popular music from the 1920s & 1930s.  I have three of their CDs - one of them sent to me by a member of the band.  Their recordings are upbeat and lots of fun.  Be sure to check out their website.  Even if you don't understand a word of German, it is very attractive and well done. 

Royal Society Jazz Orchestra   Another fine 1920s  & 1930s style dance band from the San Francisco area. 

Vince Giordano's Nighthawks.  A late 1920s style band from New York City. 

Stomp Off Records.  Stomp Off is a record label that specializes in modern groups that play  vintage jazz and ragtime.
