Tell Me Tonight]<\/p>\n<p>I am very fond of German pop music from the Weimar era &#8211; and even from the dark period that followed.\u00a0\u00a0 Recently I have\u00a0 acquired a number of British recordings of German pop songs with English lyrics and will feature some of them in the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Where Is This Lady&#8221; was originally performed as &#8220;Es gibt noch M\u00e4rchen&#8221; by <a title=\"Marta Eggerth Wikipedia article\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marta_Eggerth\" target=\"_blank\">Marta Eggerth<\/a> in the 1932 German film <em>Es war einmal ein Walzer<\/em> which featured a soundtrack by the famous operetta composer <a title=\"Franz Leh\u00e1r Wikipedia Article\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Franz_Leh%C3%A1r\" target=\"_blank\">Franz Leh\u00e1r<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A British version of the film was released also in 1932 under the title <em>Where Is This Lady<\/em> in which Marta Eggerth also starred.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/mIgdk-2lwA0\" target=\"_blank\">Here<\/a> (sorry, no embedding is allowed on this clip) is a YouTube clip featuring Marta Eggerth singing the German version of the song (the video shown is from a different Eggerth film and not <em>Es war einmal ein Walzer<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>As of this writing Marta Eggerth is still alive at age 99.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is a remarkable video of her performing at age 82<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EWuVU-Asxlo\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And in this clip you can hear her perform at age 90!<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UM2VQbLU5kM\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On the flip side of the Jack Hylton record is &#8220;Tell Me Tonight&#8221; a song which was first performed as &#8220;Heute Nacht oder nie!&#8221; in the 1932 German film <em>Das Lied einer Nacht<\/em>\u00a0 The film&#8217;s music was by <a title=\"Msicha Spoiliansky Bio Information  - mischaspoilansky.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mischaspoliansky.com\/bio.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mischa Spilianski<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 A British version of the film was made under the title of <em>Tell Me Tonight<\/em> (it was also known as <em>Be Mine Tonight<\/em>).\u00a0 Staring in both the British and German films was <a title=\"Jam Kiepura Wikipedia article\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jan_Kiepura\" target=\"_blank\">Jan Kiepura<\/a>, a famous Polish tenor who, in 1936, married Marta Eggerth.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Below is a YouTube clip of Kipura performing the song in German<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p8Iic51qX1o\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In recent years the song has enjoyed a nice revival by Max Raabe as heard below in this promotional video for the <a title=\"Max Raabe &amp;
