Meade Lux Lewis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meade Lux Lewis was one of the pioneers who helped bring about the early 1940s popularity of the boogie-woogie piano style.\u00a0 You can read an interesting article about the ups and downs of his career at <a title=\"Meade Lux Lewis\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oldtimeherald.org\/archive\/back_issues\/volume-6\/6-1\/asch-folkways.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asch Records was founded in 1939 by <a title=\"Moses Asch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oldtimeherald.org\/archive\/back_issues\/volume-6\/6-1\/asch-folkways.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moses Asch<\/a> and issued a variety of blues, folk, ethnic and jazz recordings.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After the company went bankrupt in 1947 Asch founded Folkways Records.\u00a0\u00a0 When Asch died in 1987 Folkways Records was acquired by the Smithsonian Institution which continues to operate it under the name Smithsonian Folkways.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the recordings here have very similar opening passages &#8211;
