Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I selected this record to present here on the blog it occurred to me that both of its featured artists were killed less than a year later in two separate bombings during the London blitz.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Wikipedia Article\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ken_Snakehips_Johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ken &#8220;Snakehips&#8221; Johnson<\/a> was Britain&#8217;s most successful black bandleader.\u00a0 Johnson&#8217;s band had a long term engagement at London&#8217;s <a title=\"Cafe de Paris\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cafedeparis.com\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cafe de Paris<\/a> nightclub where it was performing on March 8, 1941 <a title=\"Daily Mail\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-1264532\/The-blitz-70-years-Carnage-Caf-Paris.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">when two bombs came into the building<\/a> through a ventilation shaft and exploded in front of the band killing Johnson and dozens of others.<\/p>\n<p>A little over a month later on April 17, 1941 vocalist <a title=\"Wikipedia Article\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Al_Bowlly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Bowlly<\/a> was killed when a parachute mine exploded outside of his apartment.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
